β€œCLOSE THE CARE GAP” The reality today is that who you are and where you live, could mean the difference between life and death. It isn’t fair. But we can change this….
On 5th February 2024, Students of St. Francis College of Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing 3rd year and 2nd year) had organized an awareness programme on World Cancer Day at St. Francis Hospital, Suyash Hospital Pvt. Ltd and Robert Nursing Home, Indore.
The main objective of this role-play was to spread awareness about cancer. How to reduce, cure and prevent the cancer risk. We will achieve health equity when every person has the opportunity to reach his or her full health potential without barriers or limitations created by social position or other socially or commercially determined circumstances.
Year 2024 is, the Third & final year of three year UICC campaign – β€œCLOSE THE CARE GAP” as everyone deserves access to cancer care. The theme is to identify & address the barriers that exist for many people in India and the world to access the care they need.
Students address the root causes of these inequities and to treat cancer as an important health issue. The people should adopt a healthier behavior are:-
1. Choose healthy food.
2. Stay active, keep moving,
3. Quit smoking/chewing Tobacco/using tobacco in any form.
4. Cut down on Alcohol.
5. Avoid pollutants and harmful chemicals including asbestos, pesticides & containers with BPA.
6. Get vaccinated against HPV.
7. Eat a diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, fruit, and beans.
8. Eat a diet low in highly processed foods, red and processed meat, sugar-sweetened drinks.
8. Know about the cancer symptoms & signs & act on it.

After awareness programme, public gives a good response and also students were appreciated by the doctors and staff of the hospitals. Also a cancer survivor shared her beautiful journey of her period of treatment after she was diagnosed of breast cancer at Suyash hospital.
As we all know that β€˜Cancer touches everyone’; and all are likely to be effected by Cancer in some way - either via a diagnosis, helping care for a loved one or supporting a friend. By supporting the campaign students was wearing β€œNavy Blue color T-shirt” to draw attention of public for cancer awareness.
Lastly, we are so grateful to our Dear Principal Prof. Dr. Blessy Antony ma’am for providing us with such an opportunity to reach the public and spread the awareness.
